DisgrifiadThe 1st edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1875, identifies a water corn mill at this location in the centre of the village, signifying that it was a working mill. Water was channelled from a north-flowing stream in the vicinity of Howleston Mill (NPRN 544138) along the east side of the valley to a point above the mill. The 2nd edition map (1907) doesn't identify the village mill, although it does map the same small building. The watercourse is now labelled 'Old Mill Race', so it seems that the village mill was out of use by 1907. The mill building has not survived; Grove Place now gives access to new buildings behind what may have been the mill house.
