Newport Bridge carries the former A48 trunk road over the River Usk, between Clarence Place and the High Street. The bridge was opened on 22 June 1927, replacing a stone bridge of 1800, and has five arches with stone piers and abutments in grey ashlar, rock-faced cutwaters and steel girder arches.
