St Mary's was formerly a chapel of Penmorfa. The present building is thought to be fifteenth century and later. It comprises a nave and chancel, without structural divisions. There are surviving later medieval roof trusses.
The churchyard has an elaborate mid nineteenth century lychgate.
It is possible that the chapel was originally associated with a llys, a princely court, represented by the castle mound across the road (NPRN 93540).
