Large pit shown on 1st ed county OS map, with associated spoil heap on N (downhill) side. Possibly dug to assay coal or clay deposits (the site is 150m W of Graig Colliery & Brick Works - nprn 507795 - and was probably part of it). The 3rd ed county OS map interprets the site as an old coal level. It is 15m diameter, and 6m deep, with steep grassy sides and flat bottom. The spoil heap is roughly 15m diameter and 10m high, grass and heather covered.
