Llyn y Chwarel Reservoir is one of two large reservoirs (the second being Llyn Newydd) which originally supplied water to Chwarel Rhos/Capel Curig Slate Quarry to the north. The dam wall on the east side of the reservoir is 123m long, 10m wide and 3m high, comprising a wide stone bank faced in stone and capped with turf.
