The remains of this aircraft are designated as a Protected Place under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986. The Act makes it an offence to interfere with the wreckage of any crashed, sunken or stranded military aircraft without a licence. Event and Historical Information:
This Spitfire was one of 1000 delivered by the Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory to contract 981687/39 between June and July 1941. Its service life included assignments to 308 Sq, 315 Sq, 610 Sq, 123 Sq and 3 Del Flight. The aircraft crashed in bad weather near Llanfair, Anglesey, or 2 miles northwest of Menai Bridge on 24 November 1941. The pilot was P/O Philip P. VERNON
