A circular limekiln is marked on the 1st edition of the OS 25” map at the head of Spreadeagle Pill within Sandy Haven Creek. This kiln and another (NPRN 515963) were probably serviced from the quay and dwelling on the western side of the pill (NPRN 515964).
The site was visited by the RCAHMW in November 2022 and was found to be subject to extensive damage from trees and general undergrowth. Large, mature trees are growing along the upper surface of the kiln resulting in root damage to the walls and structure. As a result, the lime kiln is in a ruinous state, both kiln-eyes and the crucible have collapsed inwards, along with the lintel of the northern kiln-eye. The lintel of the southern kiln-eye is still in place.
The lime kiln was formerly Grade II listed, but was delisted in 2017 (HER PRN 60477).
