This level was operating during the 1870s and is shown as a working colliery on the 1881 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map, comprising a level, a shaft and a small cluster of buildings. It had closed by the end of the century and most of the site was later quarried away and Bryn Road was later built across it. In 1909, a second Rhondda Main Colliery opened 750 metres away on the eastern side of the Ogmore Valley, but this seems to have been a different venture. Trysor 2011.
