Minllyn is a slate and slab quarry (nprn 310049) begun in the C19, the most productive phase of which began after the Carlyle Slate & Slab Company was formed in 1872. Work ceased in 1924. The tip is the waste from an underground working (nprn 527504) probably of the mid C19 and is an amalgamation of 5 finger tips, fanning out from the uphill (W) end, and covering an area approximately. 110m E-W x 40m N-S. The tip is up to 20m high on the downhill side, and contains slate rubble and boulders. On the top, the position of former tramways are outlined by thin turf, whilst a section of tramway plate was seen in the rubble.
