Cofnod Safle

This ruined structure is the former magazine of the Albion Colliery. It sits on an artificially raised mound, surrounded by a broad and shallow quarry ditch. The structure measures 5.25 metres west-southwest to east-northeast, by 4 metres wide and up to 1 metre thick. The walls still stand up to 1.75 metres high. The upper parts of the walls and the entire roof have gone. The building was of coursed stone and brick construction, bound by a black mortar. Some of the exposed bricks are stamped ?Star Brick Co.? This building is mentioned in newspaper reports of a tornado that affected the Cilfynydd area in 1913, when the magazine roof was blown off. J.J. Hall, Trysor, 7 January 2013
