The placename 'The Quay' shown at the northeastern end of Priory Bay on OS 1st edition mapping. Admiralty Sailing Directions dating to 1884 note 'The landing place is on the north side, in Priory bay. There is a good well of water, but inconveniently situated for supplying vessels. Limestone is quarried in several parts of the island, and shipped in considerable quantities.' However, the pattern of tracks leading down to the beach shown on OS mapping suggests that the beaching of vessels to take limestone from Caldy's quarries occurred more towards the southwestern end of the bay. A landing pier is shown here on OS 2nd edition 25in mapping.
