A rectangular building with a porch on the northern side is shown on OS 1st edition mapping. It was built in 1860, on the promenade at Knights Arms Square. It was the home of the first 30ft lifeboat `The Good Deliverance'. As the station developed alterations were made, including a road being built between it and the coast edge in 1873. In 1878, the RNLI made a slipway for the boat house, meaning lifesaving operations could get underway quicker. However, the station was closed in 1902 after the decline of traffic to the port. The boathouse also sold around this time. The station was reinstated in the early 1960s.
