Grenfell Town was built at Pentrchwyth from 1803 to 1813 and consisted of forty terraced houses arranged in three rows. The houses were built for workers of the Upper (NPRN 40465) and Middle Bank copperworks. The houses are distinctive for their use of full size sash windows on both floors, where upper floor windows of workers' housing in Swansea's iron producing districts were usually of reduced height.
