The Hendre, a picturesque mansion initially built as a hunting lodge in c.1830 but subsequently altered and enlarged (nprn 37025), is located about 5km west of Monmouth. It lies within parkland (700386), is surrounded by gardens (265925), and has historical associations with the Rolls family who were pioneers of aviation and motoring.

The kitchen garden lies to the north of the house, built at the same time as the mansion. It is rectangular, long axis north-north-west by south-south-east, tapering slightly towards the north end, and measuring some 80m by 70m at its widest. It is surrounded by brick walls standing to their full height. At the north end is the former gardener’s house and a number of lean-to and free-standing glasshouses. A range of buildings along the outer west wall has gone.
Early Ordnance Survey maps portray an interior layout of perimeter and cross paths. Traces of this survive in the northern half which appears to be under some degree of cultivation.

An annex on the south-east end contained further glasshouses and a large building in the south corner. The annex as such has gone along with the glasshouses but the building is now the golf club house.
