A twin terrace of nineteenth century dwellings built for the workers of Fernhill Colliery, Blaenrhondda (NPRN 80561). The houses appear on the first, second, third and fourth editions of the six inch Ordnance Survey maps (published in 1884, 1900, 1921, and 1935 respectively). No trace of them remains on modern Ordnance Survey maps.
Paul Davis recalls ‘stories being told that the old man who lived in the last house refused to leave, despite the remainder of the street having gone. His family would ensure there was always someone in residence while he went out to the shops to prevent the council from knocking it down. The buildings were only removed after he died.’
