A magazine is depicted and annotated at this location on the first edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map, published 1887. The annotation ‘magazine’ is missing from the second edition map, published 1905, suggesting it was out of use by this date. The magazine would have held explosives, and would likely have served one of the metal mines in the area, such as those at Goginan, Cwmbrwyno and Nant y Arian.
The surviving building is rectangular in plan, measuring 11.5 metres by 6 metres and is of rubble stone construction with a slate roof. It has been modified through its later use as a garage. It is reported to have, or had, walls lined with wood.
