Hindu temple (mandal) and community centre approved 2010 and opened in 2012 in post-war two-storey pale brick former offices and commercial building with mansard roof. Community hall, meeting-rooms and kitchen are on the ground and first-floor rooms with the large temple on the (modernised) upper floor within the roof space. The temple is remarkable for the mural depicting the Ramayana painted directly on the wall facing the shrine, which was painted and signed by a specialist artist from the Republic of India. External signage reads: SEA VIEW BUILDINGS / SANATAN DHARMA MANDAL & HINDU / COMMUNITY CENTRE CARDIFF with Sanskrit 'aum' symbol encircled by letters SDM HCC. Historical note: the mandal is the successor of a series of initiatives. About 1985 the hall at 28 The Parade was hired weekly for meetings and festivals. Before that small satsangs (religious meetings) were held in the homes of the congregation. In 1988 a temple was founded at 22 Parade Road, Cardiff. Eventually the premises in Lewis Road were purchased. See the interview with Vimla Patel in 'InterCardiff' 10 Dec. 2016. Visit by the Welsh Asian Heriage Project led by Perminder Dhillon in Sept. 2024.
