The colliery is depicted on Ordnance Survey 25in maps as 'Taff Colliery' (first ed., 1876); 'Nixon's Merthyr Vale Colliery' (second ed., 1900) and 'Merthyr Vale Colliery' (third ed., 1919). The site has been demolished and cleared. A tramway, 'Nixon's Colliery Tramway' was built to carry waste spoil from the colliery and eventually extended for almost a kilometre to the north, crossing to the west bank of the River Taff before 1900 and extending over Aberfan Road on the 'Black Bridge' (nprn 410671).
