Bedwllwyn Colliery was in operation in the late nineteenth-century, the first level was sunk shortly before 1860 by Mr Kenway of Neath. The site changed hands twice before being abandoned in 1901. A report on a site visit by the Council for British Archaeology in 1966 records the site as completely demolished.
