Fochriw Pits were sunk by the Dowlais Iron Company. Sinking commenced in Feb 1857 and coal was reached in November 1862.
No.1 Pit (north) commenced raising coal June 1863, no.2 Pit (south) in September 1866. The colliery closed in 1924. Subsequently the buildings were taken down, and the site was re-graded in the late twentieth century (Duplicate of NPRN80576.)
