Part of the plateway system connecting various ironstone and coal levels on the western slopes of the Taff valley with Cyfarthfa Ironworks.

1884 (OS 6-inch 1st Edn.): The plateway ran from Cwm-glo Coal Pit, where connections were made with other tramroads, past Coedcae Coal Pit to join the line from Mynydd Aberd're, passing beneath the B&M and L&NW Joint Railway in a tunnel.

1905 (OS 6-inch 2nd Edn.): The section south of the junction with the branch to Pen-y-heol-gerig Quarry (SO 03780646) had been removed.
