1. Photograph of c 1900 shows sweeping lawns and well-manicured terrace, with nascent shrub-gardens and specimen trees in fairly typical Edwardian fashion. Trees in distant background demonstrate that the estate was carved out of a managed woodland.

2. This site appears on the OS 25 inch plans of 1889, 1903 and 1928 (XVII:11). The estate is set in a large park with copses of trees and several woodlands. Above the house there is a 'Drying ground' (use not now understood) and stables. The house faces SE overlooking two terraces. There is a Fish Pond marked to the SW. A kitchen garden divided by regular paths with glass house is detached on the edge of the town at SO 30106656.
