Bwlch is a settlement on the A40 London to Fishguard trunk road (nprn 419867) at a natural gap ('bwlch' in Welsh) in the topography through which the road passes. The more direct but steeper approach to the pass from the east, via Llygadwy Farm (nprn 407583) was superceded by a more gently inclined alignment which includes a right-angle bend and a hairpin bend; this route is still in use.
