St Hilda's is located on the east side of Sunnybank Road, at its junction with Kemys Street. It was built in 1887-8 in Early English style, to designs of architect E.M.Bruce Vaughan of Cardiff, and built of grey Pennant sandstone with grey Forest dressings and slate roofs. Its plan comprises five-bay nave with lean-to aisles and gabled south porch, lower chancel and south transept. Clerestory windows are encircled quatrefoils in pairs, lancets elsewhere. A fleche towards the east end of the roof was remade in 1934.
Inside, piers are circular with moulded capitals and bases, the chancel arch is wide and high. The octagonal pulpit is of stone carved to the architect's design by William Clarke of Llandaff. There is much stained glass including works by Samuel Evans (Smethwick) and Celtic Studios.
