Erwood was a minor wayside station on the Mid-Wales Railway, which opened between Llanidloes and Brecon in 1864. The main building stands on the north side of the former line and the station house lies to the northwest. The railway and station closed in 1964 and in 1984 the derelict site was converted into a craft centre. In 2004, the signal box from Newbridge-on-Wye (nprn 413082) was re-erected, in a modified form, on the site of Erwood's original box.
