Pontypool Road Station is situated between Pontypool and the suburb of New Inn. Part of the Great Western Railway, the station was, at its peak, one of the busiest junctions in the country with a large engine shed and many sidings. The station underwent significant refurbishment in 1994, when many of the buildings, including the ticket office, were demolished. The station in now Pontypool & New Inn Station.
