The 1st and 2nd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1871 and 1899 respectively, depict an active woollen factory at this location, but the 3rd edition (date not known) names the site 'Old Factory'. The factory was situated in the deep valley to the east of Caerwys, and a short, spring-fed unnamed stream was impounded to form a large mill pond, the factory built on the dam. The present buildings occupy the same footprint. The site is now a trout farm with several separate ponds.
