Bethel English Independent Chapel opened in 1884 as a daughter church of Bethel Welsh Independent chapel on Carnglas Road. The original chapel, apart from the hall, was knocked down for road widening in the mid 20th century, and the present chapel building(incorporating the original hall was opened in 1970. In 1972 Bethel became part of United Reform church. In 1992 it receievd the congregation from St Andrews URC.
