The western bridge, known as the Cleveland Bridge (after the contractors, the Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Co. Ltd.), of the A48 Neath by-pass road (nprn 91602) crosses the River Neath Navigation (nprn 91663), Neath Canal (nprn 34444) and various minor railways and roads . The bridge consists of a 17-span steel viaduct some 585m long, carried on steel and concrete piers. It was completed in 1955. The river navigation is crossed by the central span of 91m.
