Originally The Intermediate School for Girls, Cowbridge, built in 1896 following the Welsh Intermediate Education Act (1889) and extended in the early C20th (1908). Most recently the building has been occupied by the sixth form of Cowbridge Comprehensive School. Since 2010 the building has been empty and an application has been made to redevelop the site. The building is not listed.
For an architectural and historical account, see the Report by Robert Scourfield (in the National Monuments Record). The 1896 building in local limestone was designed by Robert Williams in neo-Tudor style with prominent gables and chimneys. The 1896 hall and stair survive with other elements of the original building. The 1908 classroom extensions by R S Griffith were stylistically sympathetic to the Robert Williams's building. A distinctive feature of the plan is the residential block for school boarders. Scourfield emphasizes that this was the first intermediate school for girls in Wales.
